About the Artist:
Robert is an artist who currently lives in Sacramento, California. He works primarily in oil paints and pastels, and his artwork includes still lifes, plein air landscapes, and figures. Robert likes to work quickly with rich colors; his subjects consist of anything that might be fun and interesting to view.
He’s had a life-long interest in art. While growing up in Toledo, Ohio, Robert took Saturday youth art classes at the Toledo Museum of Art, and explored the galleries there. He earned art history degrees from Bowling Green State University and the University of Minnesota, and completed additional college level art studio and graphics courses. He has participated in various California arts groups, including Arts Benicia, Lafayette Studio, Walnut Creek Civic Arts Education, and currently the Patris Studio in Sacramento.
Robert is also a big fan of art museums and art books, and believes it is important to observe and learn about the work of other artists. His many favorite artists include Bonnard, Manet, Delacroix, Rubens, Hiroshige, Eakins, Thiebaud, Morisot, and Diebenkorn.
Robert regularly exhibits his work in solo and group shows. In its review “Walnut Creek’s Bedford Gallery Honors Local Artistic Voices,” The Contra Costa Times praised his entry: “Even traditional subjects can have an edge. Robert Gonsowski’s ‘Autumn Table’ is an almost jolting still life of squash, two of them sliced in half to reveal fat seeds, with a couple of turnips added to the mix.” (Robert Taylor, The Contra Costa Times, July 11, 2008).
